A wreck made on purpose, then remade by the weather. Here is the record, and what is still open.
- ServiceA Lockheed C-130 Hercules of the Royal Jordanian Air Force: the four-engined tactical transport with a high wing, an upswept tail and a rear loading ramp. The airframe's variant, serial and service history are not published.
- Before the sinkingFuel, oil, paint and other hazardous materials were removed. The doors and windows were taken out to let light in and give divers several exits.
- 16 Nov 2017Scuttled about 300 m off South Beach as an artificial reef, part of an initiative backed by King Abdullah II to build marine habitat and eco-tourism in Aqaba. It settled whole and upright on the sand at about 16–17 m, near the M42 Duster tank.
- 2017–2020Two and a half years as an intact aircraft on the sand, and a fast favourite for shore dives and wreck training.
- 17 Mar 2020A storm with gale-force winds struck Aqaba. The aluminium airframe could not take the tumbling of the waves: the fuselage split in two, the wings sank to the bottom, and the nose was torn off and carried to another part of the site. The tail stayed intact.
- TodayThe cockpit lies at about 13 m and the tail at 17 m. Soft corals cover the wings, glassfish fill the cockpit and hold, lionfish wait under the wings. A plastic skeleton still sits in the pilot's seat. Most dives end with a safety stop on the M42 Duster tank at 5–6 m.
- Still openWere the engines and propellers removed before the sinking? One Aqaba dive centre says they were; others describe the turboprops on the wings, and this model shows them. Where exactly does each piece lie now, and which way does it face? Is the ramp down? Does the skeleton still wear its helmet? A compass lap of the site would settle most of it.

No survey or photogrammetry of the wreck has been published, before or after the storm. The aircraft is modelled from the C-130H's published dimensions; how the broken pieces lie is a reconstruction that fits the published accounts. Correct it against your own footage. Switch on Accuracy to see which parts are confirmed.
Assumed
- Shape: a C-130H with its upswept tail and loading ramp, the high wing with four nacelles and paddle-blade propellers, the tall fin with its dorsal fillet, the tailplane, the landing-gear sponsons and the overhead escape hatches. Inside the hold: the fuselage frames and the sidewall troop seats. Antennas and small fittings are left out.
- Broken layout: the forward fuselage is shown shifted about 2 m from the tail section. The wings rest on their nacelles beside the fuselage. The cockpit section is shown about 12 m off the starboard side, upslope towards the beach and tipped over, which puts its top at about 13 m, as the accounts say. Tap "As sunk, 2017" to see the aircraft whole.
- Openings: the windscreen, the eyebrow and cockpit windows, the cabin windows, the crew door, both paratroop doors and the escape hatches are open, as the doors and windows were removed. The ramp is shown lowered to the sand; its real position is not recorded.
- Engines: shown in place with their propellers. One source says they were removed before the sinking; until footage settles it, Accuracy marks them as likely.
- The aircraft lies on its belly with the gear retracted, settled about 30 cm into the sand. With the tail upright, the fin tip reaches about 5 m.
- The setting follows the dive-site map: sand and seagrass shelving from the beach in the east, and a coral slope dropping west to about 24 m. The aircraft lies roughly north–south with its nose towards the M42 Duster. The tank and the Lockheed TriStar nearby are not modelled.
- Torn cables and aluminium at the break, and all coral and sponge positions, are illustrative.
Dive mode and depth slider
- The depth scale on the right is a slider. Drag it, click on it, or focus it and use the arrow keys. In the model view it raises or lowers the camera. In the dive it sets the depth your diver swims to, so the ascent-rate bars react if you rise too fast.
- The dive computer's no-decompression limit uses the recreational air table and a simple nitrogen-loading estimate. Gas use assumes a 12 L tank and 15 L/min surface consumption. It is for immersion only. Never plan a real dive with it.
- Sound is a recorded underwater ambience loop, and your exhaled bubbles follow its breathing.
How it's rendered
- Water absorbs red light fastest, then green, then blue. The shader applies that per channel along both the sunlight's path down and your line of sight. At 17 m much of the red has gone even in clear Gulf of Aqaba water. Switch on the torch to see full colour up close.
- Moving caustics, light shafts, marine snow, ambient occlusion and bloom. Growth, paint wear and sand ripples are generated per pixel from world position. Turn off Cinematic on slower devices.
What would sharpen it
- A slow lap of each piece in video at a steady 2 m standoff, plus overhead passes. The tail section, forward fuselage, cockpit and each wing can be scanned separately in Polycam, Metashape or RealityCapture.
- Compass bearings and distances between the tail, the forward fuselage, the cockpit and the wings, and which way each piece faces.
- A look at the wings: are the engines and propellers there? Photos of the break, the ramp and the flight deck.
